Welcome ladies and gentlemen, the fact that u click to come in to see means that u are wondering what crap story am I going to talk about, haha. Disclaimer: this is not for anyone who is weak-hearted.

I was in arts canteen this fateful afternoon, sat at the seats with green tables, lowest level below the claypot stall. I was having a conversation with my friend when suddenly we heard a “pong” sound; As I had my back to the “sound source”, I didn’t think much of it. It was only when I saw my friend’s “amazed/shocked” facial expression that I realized something was wrong. As I was turning my head around, I can observe those seated around us were also shocked by “whats lying behind”. Then suddenly I spotted whats the source of interest, there’s this bird lying on the floor approximately 2 metres away from me. There’s a small pool of blood near it, apparently in a “straight splashed out” direction. Given my view of sight, the bird’s head is facing me and its gasping!!! Lying on the floor, apparently in great pain, waiting to die, when once a while it tries to move its legs, its mouth still gasping, I can only stare and do nothing. I was simply stunned by the sight, how many times in ur life do u see animals struggling to stay alive? When I asked my friend what happened, he said it happened too quickly, he could only hear the sound and spot some feathers flying out. Apparently, what the poor bird did was that it flew too close to the ceiling fan in the canteen and this fateful day is its death anniversary. Given that situation, what wld you have done? If that’s a human, at least I know I must call the ambulance, but a bird which is seriously injured, even on the verge of death, struggling to stay alive for as long as its fragile body can hold on, what can we do? Just when everyone at the scene is left stunned, the hero came along. He is a Chinese uncle who I think, is in charge of clearing the utensils at that section of the canteen. Armed with 2 small buckets of trash bin, he simply picked up the dying bird and “pong”, dropped it into 1 bucket. After the body was lifted up from the ground, a bigger pool of blood was visible. Thick, viscous and dark red… holy shit!!! Now that’s a BIG pool of blood for a bird that size. I can hear girls squeal and exclamations of “wah lao”, “oh gosh”, “aiyoooo”. I contributed a “wah lao”. The hero uncle turned to us and smilingly told us that the bird is “old liao”, cannot “see properly”. With that he squatted down with tissues and cleared the pool of blood and made off, everything was back to normal. But i know this sight remains in my head forever. I have been wondering, what if after hitting the fan, the bird came crushing down on my table, into my lunch plate???!!! Gross!!! And its mouth opening and closing as if telling me “Helllpppppp Mmeeeeee…” Argh!!! But heng, I finished lunch at the time of incident. However, I wonder also if the blood has spilled into any dishes….
What lesson can we draw from this? Never eat lunch under a open fan!! Last but not least the bird is a mynah. Refer here for more details:
